Tigre points have only recently been recognized and to date are the second oldest style of point from Uruguay and surrounding areas. They are best known from the Tigre site on the Uruguay River. They date between 12,000 and 11,000 years ago. Additional excavations are currently underway (December 2020).
Tigre point replica
This piece was made from a flake of silicified sandstone from the Shirley Basin in Wyoming, but is nealy identical to stone from northern Uruguay, frequently used for Tigre points. It was shaped and thinned with direct percussion and finished with pressure flaking. made by Bruce Bradley April 2020.
